“Everywhere, Everything” Musical Analysis #1
About the Song
“Everywhere, Everything” by Noah Kahan is a hauntingly beautiful song. The song follows a couple so enamored by each other that they don't realize the world is ending. “We didn't know that the sun was collapsing. 'Til the seas rose and the buildings came crashing” (Kahan). I find this song very beautiful. If I feel stressed I put this song on and focus on it. This was also the song that got me into his music.
It is sung by Noah Kahan on his 3rd studio album, Stick Season. He co-produced the song with Gabe Simon who is “a producer, songwriter, and musician from Nashville”(Song Facts). Simon was the one who played all the instruments on the song. “Everywhere, Everything” was released on December 1, 2023.
Musical Analysis
The song has variations in volume which increases emotional intensity throughout the song. The dynamic of the beginning of the song is soft and light. As the song goes on, especially during the chorus, the instruments get louder which creates a more emotional and intense atmosphere.
The timbre of the song is heard in the bridge towards the end. The song has guitar layered with drum and percussion. This adds to the intensity of the bridge of the song.
The melody of the song starts off simple. As timbre is added and the dynamic in the song shifts so does the melody. The melody in the beginning of the song feels slightly eerie and sad to me. As the song progresses and more instruments and sound are occurring it feels courageous.

Hello Emma! I agree with your interpretation of “Everywhere, Everything” as haunting but beautiful. The way you described the dynamic changes really stood out to me because the shift from soft to more intense sections make the emotions feel more urgent. I think the timbre of the layered guitar and percussion in the bridge adds a sense of momentum that mirrors the idea of the world collapsing around them. Something else I noticed was how the steady tempo contrasts with the dramatic lyrics about destruction which almost makes the love feel grounded and calm despite everything happening. That contrast adds another layer to the meaning of the song.
ReplyDelete"Everywhere, Everything" was actually the same song that got me addicted to listening to Noah Kahan, it was something about the lyrics that just stuck out to me, especially when he added Gracie Abrams to another version of the song. The volume change during the song is something I agree with, and I noticed the first few times while listening to it, making it more intense. The lyrics are another thing that stick out to this song, its emotional lyrics about how he is accepting the ending of something that he had. I also think the lyrics are even more emotional due to how he had a connection with someone who had similar past experience like him, which is hard to find, and it all just came crashing down out of nowhere.
